Strengths:
+ Football. Good at running, good grip, looks good in tights. Need I say more? The one time he actually will consider listening to someone and the way he lets out his stress.
+ Fighting. Well, given his past, he sort of more or less has to be good at it, no? Or how would he have made it this far in life alive?
+ Athletic. Ask him to play a sport for fun or PE, and he's usually quite good at it. He's in good physical condition and at the peak of his game.
+ Focused. When Trevor wants something badly enough, he focuses on it. Of course, this can be somewhat of a weakness as he sometimes brinks almost to the point of obsession.
+ Loyalty. He's got your back if you've got his. He'll take the hit for you, if need arises and will help you when needed, if you're in his circle. Very few have his complete loyalty, of course, as it takes a lot to even get close enough to him to warrant it.
Weaknesses:
- People pleaser. Trevor wants to be accepted. Resultantly, he'll do whatever it takes to have people like him and accept him. He doesn't want to be ignored or tossed aside like an old shirt.
- Fear. He fears commitment; he fears abandonment. This has definitely held him back in a way in life as it has kept many doors shut for him that might have been opened to him should he have chosen different "friends" or formed meaningful relationships.
- Focused. As mentioned above, his focus on the things he wants or likes can be a weakness as at times he does nearly or completely brink into the realm of obsession.
- Trust. Trev fails to trust people. He won't let them in. He shuts them out and leaves them before they can find something they dislike about him and leave him. Fear of abandonment has a major effect on this.
- Being true to himself. Because of his people pleasing nature, he finds it difficult to stand for what he believes in. He goes with the flow, and this gets him into a lot of trouble at times.
Habit(s): When nervous Trevor either shuts down or gets incredibly angry. Neither is something you want.
Pet Peeve(s): The boy absolutely hates being told what to do or being shown up. His wrath is rarely held back in such situations. It's nearly gotten him expelled on a few occasions.
Fears: Trevor fears most in the world the idea of losing his mind, followed by a tangible fear of anything that's large and slithers.
Personality:
- Arrogant. Pride may come before a fall, but Trevor doesn't seem to care. He's not afraid to let a little arrogance unmask itself. He sees it as self-confidence and normal, though if he took a closer look he'd see it's a little more than that. He thinks he's all that and more when around the ladies, larger than life, but really, that applies to anytime. He likes to make himself seem more than what he really is, not caring if he has to lie or cheat to do so. Don't like it? Look the other way.
- Congenial yet manipulative. Trevor can be quite outgoing and friendly. It comes naturally to him to be in the spotlight, and he can pretty much talk his way out of anything because of how easy it is for him to shift gears. He'll use flattery, compliments, or whatever it takes to get out of trouble, and he can usually work his way out of it before the person realizes they've just been manipulated.
- Controlling. The boy likes to be in control of any situation he's in. He likes the feeling of power and confidence it gives him. He likes knowing he can control how things go and keep things going his way. He likes how it makes him feel important. Usually his manners are subtle when being controlling, using simple manipulation of the situation, but if provoked or in a mood, his personality can do a complete 180, and anger can drive the desire for control. Not ever a pretty picture when that happens.
- Fun-loving partier. The boy loves to party. What can I say? His dorm is usually the one everyone hangs in on the nights that they can't manage to sneak out to the forest as he has the latest music, the latest stereo, and the alcohol and smokes. He makes sure he can keep up his rep.
- Temper. While on most days Trev is as nice as can be, there are times when set off that he's cold as ice. Then again, he can be hot as fire and riled up. He's not afraid to take his temper and make the situation physical. He has been known to start fights, and when he starts them, he makes sure he finishes them and comes out on top. He will yell, verbally abuse, physically abuse, whatever whim he gets when set off.
- Trouble. Trevor can be trouble with a capital T at times. The desire for control and his temper can be a recipe for disaster, not just can be but have been. Of course, he's kept such situations under wraps since being sent to Pembroke his sophomore year. Came here because he wanted to get away from his overbearing parents, says he. Nevermind that the boy has a record.
- Resourceful. He may not seem smart. Heck, he's not known for his smarts. He's known for his body, for his sports ability, for pretty much anything but book smarts. But he's street smart and suave and can and will pull something out of the blue that was lectured on in class five months ago if it helps him win an argument or debate. His resourcefulness has gotten him out of tight spots on more than one occasion.
- Prankster. Trevor's got a sense of humor. It may not be the best at times, but it does lead to a few surprises here or there. He'll usually try to head up and take the lead in pranking the poor freshmen while they're asleep in their dorms their first night, though sometimes people do beat him to the punch.
- Loyal. If you're his friend, he's got your back for life. If you're in a tight spot, he'll help you out of it and help in any way he can. Of course, it's very seldom that anyone becomes part of that circle that gets such treatment, but once you're in, you're never out unless you do something completely unthinkable and unforgivable.
- "Loner." Though congenial and the lot, Trevor doesn't really have many close friends and has never had any meaningful relationships or hook-ups. He's afraid of abandonment and this causes a fear of commitment. He has always been one to shut you out if you're getting too close. He doesn't want to risk you seeing something in him that you don't like and leaving him in the dust when he's as emotionally invested in something as you are. He will say whatever it takes to shoo you away in such cases, whether it's the truth or not.
History:
The usual fanfare that is associated with the firstborn of a newlywed couple accompanied Trevor's birth. He was literally a honeymoon baby, but hey, that fact's never daunted him. Childhood was normal and average. Sure, after a few years, he got a few more things than most of his friends, even having two younger brothers, what with his mother's nursing career combined with his father's beginning legal ventures. He didn't see much of his father during his early years, seeing as he was busy studying at law school, seeming to only be home in case of emergency or when he wanted Trevor's mother. It didn't change much when Kevin graduated and started out as a lawyer. The check came home, his father was gone before he woke up and came home after he was put to bed. He and his brothers were left with their grandmother, a babysitter, or in daycare and, later, school as his mother worked fulltime at the hospital. But this was normal.
Sure, Trevor always wondered what it would be like to have had his parents home more often, but he enjoyed the time when they had days off or took them on the yearly summer vacation until around sixth grade when his bout of rebellion began when he met a certain group of friends that were to be his main posse until leaving for Pembroke. He wanted to spend more time with his friends on the weekends but his parents were off on weekends, and it just wasn't working, especially as his parents' absences throughout the week allowed plenty of time to get into things he shouldn't during junior high. Sure, he seemed like the perfect kid to his parents. He was always behaved when around them except when he got angry, was a B honor roll student, and was on the football team in the fall and baseball team in the spring.
Of course, the anger was a problem, so his parents started making sure he went to see a therapist at least once a month or when things were particularly tough, especially as he started getting a little more physical with things. This didn't help any. He either wouldn't talk or used psychology on the shrink himself, thinking himself a smart-ass and proud of it. After all, relaying such things to his group of friends always got him "Awesome!" or the like. His parents weren't happy, but such was life, and the relatively silent rebellion went on through his freshman year during which his grades began to drop. At first, the "the coursework's getting tougher" excuse worked. But as the year progressed and he was sent to see tutors even in the course he excelled at and passed without hardly batting an eye (math), it became apparent that there were some underlying problems.
First, it was little things. A cigarette in his room. "Oh, it's not mine. Jake was smoking it." An empty beer bottle near him as he snoozed on the couch while a movie played. "Dad left it out. I was going to go put it away, but it got to a good part, and after, I fell asleep. It was late." But when an officer brought him home one night towards the end of the school year, it was time for action to be taken. He'd been caught drinking and smoking pot. He was to show in court when the date was assigned. Friends were cut out, which lead to sneaking out and a couple more police-accompanied rides home late at night, followed by fights. So, bars were put outside his window. It didn't help. The arguing became intense, and the anger problems began to show again. He was turning into someone his parents didn't recognize, and something had to be done.
After a heated talk between father and mother, Kevin found out about Pembroke from fellow alumni at a reunion. Apparently the school was well equipped, provided a challenge (Trevor's parents were of the mind that perhaps Trevor wasn't feeling challenged enough at school) with the curriculum used, and was drug and alcohol free. It wasn't quite a prep school but then it wasn't exactly a free-for-all either. It had worked wonders on the other man's son and daughter. Best of all, the man said, was that the girls and boys were divided into two separate schools, so none of that co-ed temptation was around. His son would get the attention he needed, the challenge, and everything would be fine. He'd come home during winter break, and he'd be that son he had always known.
Reforming someone's life who doesn't want to reform and is full of hate and anger is never easy. Trevor's case was no different. Sure, he was on the football team after try-outs as a tight end, and he was in the right classes. Heck, his grades even were back to being what they always were: As and Bs, but when being sent back or coming back home, trouble always brewed. He wasn't happy. All he'd ever known had been taken away from him, and hell, he was a stupid tight end when he'd always played quarterback before. He'd lost his popularity and rep, and he was having to reestablish, which was hard being the new kid who was not only new but also a sophomore. It was like being a freshman all over again, and he hated it, only this time there wasn't much fun to go along with it and balance out the things he disliked.
Eventually, he did get to be quarterback after trying out when the senior graduated, but things still weren't better. He calmed down a bit, but he's still got the potential to rebel, and he is in a way. After all, those "illegal" parties are mighty tempting.
